Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo
As Woman’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, we have put together a Woman’s Day High Tea at Hands On Retreat on Friday 8 August 2014.
We will host 4 sessions of 2 hours each, starting at 10h00, 12h00, 14h00 and 16h00. If you are part of a small company or department, come and join us with your fellow woman and let’s celebrate this special day together.
Each guest will be pampered to seated neck and shoulder massages and will also receive a goody bag to the value of R250.
You also stand a chance to win a Burnout Couple Sleep and Spa to the value of R2700
Whilst celebrating, let’s not forget the history of this important day of South African history. 9th of August 1956 commemorates the national march of women to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the “pass”, special identification documents which curtailed an African’s freedom of movement during the apartheid era.
The women sang a protest song that was composed in honor of the occasion: Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo! (Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock.). In the 57 years since, the phrase (or its latest incarnation: “you strike a woman, you strike a rock”) has come to represent women’s courage and strength in South Africa.
Have you made plans to commemorate the woman/ women in your life?
